She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Alabama and her Doctorate of Optometry from UAB School of Optometry. She completed an internship at the Birmingham VA Medical Clinic, where she trained in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular disease such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, and the Birmingham Area Optometric Society.
