General Description

Dr. Kevin Dwyer grew up on the East Coast, living in New York, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania throughout his childhood and adolescence. After completing his bachelor’s degree at University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, he attended Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He continued his medical training as a member of the Army, completing his internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his surgery residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Dr. Dwyer served 14 years of active duty in the Army, including a combat tour during Desert Storm. During his tour he met his wife, a New Zealand nurse who worked in the emergency department at a Saudi Army medical center. After returning from combat, he served as surgeon and trauma surgeon at Army bases in Kentucky and Hawaii. He also completed his fellowship education in trauma at Fairfax Medical Center and trauma/critical care at R. Adam Cowley Maryland Shock Trauma Institute. As part of the Army Reserve, Dr. Dwyer was deployed as a surgeon to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and completed two combat tours of duty in Afghanistan. Before joining Stamford Health in 2008 as Medical Director of Trauma, Dr. Dwyer spent ten years as Associate Chief of Trauma at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia. He has served as a leader at Stamford Health, creating the Surgical Critical Care service, and working as Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery. He helps teach new generations of physicians as the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Dwyer enjoys living in Stamford and feels very connected to the community he serves.
