The product of a lifetime of study and passion, St. Jack is an ode to the bouchons, or esteemed cafes of Lyon, France, and to Chef Aaron Barnett's take on the humble excellence of rustic French cuisine. Situated on a comfortable neighborhood corner in Southeast Portland, St. Jack’ s features both a traditional pâtisserie and restaurant in an unassuming 19th century home. Pastry chef Alissa Rozos joins Barnett to manage the pâtisserie, which is open seven days a week and offers Stumptown espresso alongside such treats as tarte au citron, chocolate eclairs, macarons, and fresh baked madeleines. The cozy pâtisserie offers light lunch options, including savory pastries and classic French sandwiches. General Manager Joel Gunderson has put together a wine list that is concise yet personal, highlighting both French and Northwest wines that reflect a sense of place, and offering affordable treasures from rustic regions such as Bergerac and Quincy. The zinc-topped bar features specialty cocktails by Bar Manager Kyle Webster. French beers and Belgian ales are offered on draught and in bottles. True to authentic bouchons, regional wines are served directly from barrels in Pôts Lyonnais, traditional 46cl bottles imported from Lyon. The bar also highlights a fine selection of cognac, brandy, calvados, and eau-de-vie.
