General Description

We evaluate, diagnose and treat (medically and when indicated surgically) diseases of the retina (including macula) and vitreous. We combine clinical expertise and top of the line equipment for diagnosis. We explain the diagnosis to the patients and discuss the treatment options. Finally, we have the skill to get the best result possible when surgery is indicated; indeed, Dr Carvounis has performed the most small gauge vitrectomies in the greater Houston area.

Dr Carvounis is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Retina Society, the EuRetina, the European VitreoRetinal Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Carvounis has priveleges at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, at the Houston Methodist Hospital, CHI-St Lukes-Baylor Hospital, the UTMB Hospitals and at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr Carvounis has been awarded with an Honor Award from the American Society of Retina Specialists, an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Top 40 Ophthalmologists (internationally) from the Ophthalmologist as well as Top Doctors awards from Houstonia magazine, recognized by Best Doctors in America and has received the Dan B Jones Teaching award from Baylor College of Medicine.
