Sleep Essentials began in 2004 as a mattress retail store selling big brand name mattresses. Very quickly, we learned the bigger the brand name, the bigger the junk. Large mattress manufacturers are masters of marketing, not making superior products. In fact, they make inferior products and spin them through slick marketing as if they are superior products. As a result, we began making our own mattresses. As the adage goes, "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Thus the Sleep Essentials mattresses were born. Made of only the finest materials on earth....latex foam rubber. Latex foam rubber is the most durable and comfortable cushioning material ever made. Ours specifically is the natural sap of the rubber tree latex, no synthetics, no additives. Shortly after starting to make our own mattresses, the Consumer Product Safety Commission began requiring all mattresses sold in the United State to be flame retardant. This may sound like a good idea except mattresses now have toxic fire-retardant chemicals in them. Chemicals that the Consumer Product Safety Commission admits are toxic. Though they claim that the chemicals stay in the mattress and don't get into humans sleeping on them, 15 years of evidence has proven this isn't even remotely true. As a result of this, we don't make our "mattresses" flame proof. In fact, we don't make mattresses but instead make the materials the consumer can buy to make their own mattresses, thus avoiding the chemicals that are required to be in mattresses.
